Photoshop Elements 9 update error message

Opened my Photoshop Elements 9 program and got an alert to download critical update.

Downloaded, extracted, but error message during install, reads:Capture 1.PNG

Any idea what the cause is?

    Please share the steps you are trying when you get this. Was it working prior to any change you might have made? What happens if you directly launch via exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9 or run as administrator.

    The post described the steps I took.....see above.

    Photoshop opens and operates fine.  Just didn't install update. Says 'this installer is misconfigured' and to contact program author.  Adobe website no help. 

    Like I said, I can still use the program, just wanted the critical update.

    Thank you for your help, suggesting the C:\Program Files(86).  Will try that.

    Try resetting the preferences also

     

       1. Close Elements.

     

       2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Edit.

     

       3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
