Removing grey background problem?

I have tried several ways to carry out the refine edge procedure, but the thin hairs just be cleaned. I gues it is not possible to remove grey bckground?

Is this any good?

You need to view this image in Firefox so that it has black background. the white dots are because the background is currently transparent. Perhaps a second try might improve on it.

The problem is that you also have a very dark shadow behind the head. it would probably be simplest to do the best you can with refine edge, then you may need to draw back some of the flyaway hairs by hand to get a realistic result. If you google for "sarsa's hair brushes", those are excellent for this sort of thing. Just load them into PSE, sample the hair color and paint with one.
