Cannot add browser to the preview list

Feb 9, 2013 7:44 AM

I'm using DW CS6 Cloud on Mac OSX 10.8.2 and having a problem adding browsers for preview.

Preferences > Preview in Browser

I click [+] and choose the application such as Firefox, Chrome, check Primary or Secondary, then click [OK]. Nothing appears in the browser list.

Can anyone help me on this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Is/are the desired browsers installed on this machine?

Try Site > Advanced >Recreate site cache.

Has Dreamweaver always behaved this way or is this something new?

Which version of CS6 and build # do you have?

Sounds like a corrupted Configuration folder.  Close DW. Delete your DW Configuration folder. When you restart DW, it will create a new one for you.

    • Mac OS X: Macintosh HD:<username>:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Dreamweaver CSx:<language>:Configuration

In all cases, <username> is the name of your user account on the computer, CSx is CS4, CS5 or CS6, and <language> indicates the language of your operating system. The language is usually represented by two pairs of characters separated by an underscore, as in en_US (English), es_ES (Spanish), or fr_FR (French).

    In 2nd screenshot, CS6 appears between CS5ServiceManager and CS6ServiceManager.

Looks like your Dreamweaver installation is messed up.

You might want to do a clean re-install.

I don't have a recent version, but just a reminder if you do a clean re-install,

be sure to first export your site definitions to a safe place..

I'm not a Mac user, but some people have resolved issues by creating a new admin level user on their OS.

Sorry I can't be more help.

I use DW CS6 for a long time nearly every day, and I had this issue never before, just since today! It occured suddenly. Feels like a bug.

Perhaps you could start a new thread, and this time tell us what happened today.

What does a "bug" feel like?

No need for a new thread. All phenomenons decribed above are what I saw today in my DW and what I tried too. Without any effect.

A bug feels like getting ill suddenly ;-)

Wonder what I could do to get the browser preview back ...

Thanks, so nothing new happened today?

    Have you tried Nancy's suggestion?

I did'nt create a new user but used another admin-level user account for a try. The DW browser preview works there as normal. Now, the question is: What makes the difference? It will be a lot of work to create a new account with all details and presets ...

I will make a permissions repair now ...

After deletion of preferences file DW works like before again. This is located in user/library/preferences/Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 Prefs. Steps: Close DW, duplicate Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 Prefs (for backup), delete Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 Prefs, start DW again.

THANK YOU, Macromac! Deleting the prefs file (~library/preferences/Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 Prefs) WORKED! And it was so easy! I wasted hours earlier this week because the feature wasn't working (in the exact way the original poster described, including the same error message).
