cropping and preserving quality after

Feb 9, 2013 10:28 AM

I need to crop some pixels out of a 1920x1080 video.

1. How do you crop in CS6?

2. Will the cropped video rescale/stretech to fit a 1920x1080 frame, technically resulting in some quality loss?

Thanks.

    1. Easiest way is to scale the image up in the Effect Controls.

You can also crop in the export settings (source tab).

    2. Yes, but if its noticable depends on the amout of scaling.

    Q1.

You can test easily this your self.

    Q2.

Instant HD plugin may have a better scaling algorithm than Premiere...and I beleive AEFX does a better job also due to sub pixel algoritms.

Generally  up to 5% scaling should not be too noticable.

Another trick..edit in a lesser resolution  eg Edit HD 1080p in 720p sequence  and scale to your hearts content..

Depends what you need it for in the end.

720p is plenty adequate for youtube, vimeo, viewing files  on puters, dvds....

Instant HD will not help, that is more for fitting say 720x576 into a 1920x1080 frame.

If one actually physically Crops the image and is left with a border...Instant HD can scale the border out  in its Custom Mode.

FWIW..one could also just use  Instant HD "Custom Mode" and scale up the clip without using Crop Effect at all.

    ie a crop effectively .
