Perspective Grid confusion

working with the perspective grid and tools and I have some confusion about how the grid behaves and how objects snap TO that grid.
I have snap to grid selected within the Perspective Grid sub-menu. Mostly it works ok. But a couple of pieces I can't to butt up to each other, and when I zoom in, it appears that they are each "obeying" their own grids.
Screenshot shows what I mean. Any thoughts on how I can get all parts to see the same grid to snap to?
