After effects CS5 starts up fine, but when I click any where on the top menu bar or use a short-cut it locks up. I have to force quit once this happens.
Sorry, here is what I know from the questions on the FAQ

It was working fine for about a week before it started doing this.
Running no other software
No third-party effects
Processor 3.33 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Memory 32 GB

It happens when I click the top menu bar
I'm not using Multiple frame processing.
If I open AE and not a project it will lock up when I click in the top menu bar.
If I open a project I can use the tools and windows, but if I click the top menu bar or use a short cut that is from the top menu bar it will lock up.
Check your fonts and whether or not you use tools/ settings that mess with keyboard shortcuts/ menu entries. if it crashes when clicking on a menu entry, it can't render the flyout panels and the things I mentioned are often the cause of this. also extending the desktop to otehr screens can cause this, when the OS tries to draw the panels on a non-existing area.
