The 'get photos from files and folders' funtion in my PSE7 has failed. For several months the main folder display has been jittery and unstable, requiring repeated attempts to highlight and designate the correct subfolder. Now, the 'get photos...' option has ceased to display or list any photo files or subfolders in my main Pictures folder. Other PSE funtions of organizer and editor seem normal. And, all photos remain present in their subfolders in the main photos folder, as always.
This problem has occurred in PSE7 in a Windows 7 operating system. The catalog seems to be a good place to start as Andaleeb suggests, but I have tried repairing the catalog without effect. I have tried also creating a new catalog from the same main photo folder, but still did not eliminate the instability in the folder display in the 'Get Photos from Files and Folders' option. In addition, I have tried creating a new folder for photos and creating a new catalog, also without eliminating the problem. No other feature of PSE7, that I am aware of, has been a problem, i.e., other Organizer and Editor funtions seem normal. Finally, accessed through windows explorer, the photos folder is stable and entirely normal in behavior, so the problem does seem focused in PSE7.
I'm not very sure why this is happening.
Please go to %appdata%\Adobe\Elements Organizer\7.0\Organizer and delete the following files-
Now launch organizer directly from its exe in ProgramFiles and right click it to run as admin. See if import happens fine now?
I appreciate the suggestion, but I would like to know more about what these changes would be doing, and about how to fully reverse them, if necessary. I don't want to make my problems worse.
Click the Start Button and then your user name (in place of mine) and navigate to:
C: Users >> 99Jon >> AppData >> Roaming >> Adobe >> Elements Organizer >>10.0 >> Organizer
Delete the PSA file (with key symbol) and delete Status.dat
After deleting these two files re-start the program
AppData may be a hidden system file. See the link to reveal hidden files.
Windows7 Ultimate does not seem to show the AppData option via Start button, nor does a disk search show either psa.prf or status.dat as files. 'Show hidden files' is checked, so files should not be hidden.
Ok, I found the two files via a somewhat different route and deleted them. Unfortunately, the instability of the folder contents list continues after restarting PSE7, especially the inability to click on/select a subfolder because of uncontrolled scrolling which moves the name out of position .
If you have a long sub-folder hierarchy I think scrolling does become difficult. PSE works best if you choose a root folder and include all sub folders when using File >> Get Photos… I would suggest making a desktop shortcut for the Organizer. Then go directly to your sub-folder in Windows Explorer, press Ctrl+A (select all) and drag and drop the images on to the Organizer icon.
