image size in document not matching

My goal: a PDF 1024px x 768px

My document size: 1024px x 768px

My pictures: 1024px max on either dimension

 

Problem: images 1024px width placed in document visually are not full size but InDesign says they're in there at 234% of natural size.

 

How on earth can this be?

 

What is method for taking pictures sized for the page size and slapping them in there and having them be the right visual size/page size?

    Waht was the resolution of th eimage when it was saved in Photoshop? To get a 1:1 size in ID when working in pixels you'll want to save at 72 ppi.

    Hi, Peter;

     

    I pulled JPGs into iPhoto from a camera, exported From iPhoto stipulating 1024 max dimension (which I got) so...I'm assuming their 72dpi...is that a logical assumption?

    I don't use iPhoto, but I'd say making an assumption about the resolution would be foolish.

    Waht does ID say the actual and effective resolutions are when you check the Info panel?

    which info panel are we talking about exactly?

     

    the toolbar where it shows what % size an image is showing at?

    The Info panel. Window > Info.

    sez actual ppi: 300

     

    effective ppi 72 x 54

    So it was saved at 300 ppi, and it's been scaled unevenly. To get your  1:1 correspondence you need to scale the image 416.6667%

    should I just drag from Finder into ID window and drag the width (or height, as case may be) of document and led ID do the rest?

     

    I don't mean stretch, I mean drag to be as high or as wide as image "wants" to be?

    If you drag from finder, you can click and drag a frame to fit the ID page size and your image will scale to fit.

    yeah, ok...and if I've made my pix 1024px wide and the doc is 1024px wide, they'll fill width at full crispness?

    They shoulds in the final output. You may see some degradation in ID, even using High Quality Display, becasue you are looking at a jpeg preview, not the actual image pixels.

    OK..that's ok I can live with that; I know ID on-screen even high quality is not the full, true quality.

     

    shooting for a no-brains workflow here...I guess I did my part with the no-brains end of it!
