Adobe Illustrator 6 keeps freezing on every computer I use.

Feb 20, 2013 6:28 PM

I'm using Adobe Illustrator 6 at school (new IMacs) and at home  Macbook pro and IMac 2009, and when using every computer illustrator freezes using the effects feature, so I have to force quit and start again with no avail.  What could be the problem?  All software is up to date, is anyone else having this issue?

Some effects are very processor intensive and could take a while. It's also possible to crash Illustrator if you accidentally double up effects when all you intended to do was edit the first effect.

Sounds like you are applying effect upon effect in a combination that is just too complex to render. Illustrator will try, but in reality can't do what you are attempting. I see this a lot, especially with 3D.

What were you trying to do, what effects were you applying?

If you applied the pattern as a fill to a shape and then tried applying the 3D, that's your issue. If you save the pattern as a symbol and map it to the surface of your 3D object, you should be okay. make sure the flat vectors are filled with a solid color.
