Photoshop user, but what are the other products about?

Feb 25, 2013 5:18 AM

I am a Front-End Web Developer using Photoshop CS6.

Can anyone please explain the salient differences between:

Photoshop, Fireworks and Illustrator ??

If I use Photoshop, I can't see the point in these other products, surely I can do it all in Photoshop? Are there features in Fireworks and Illustrator that don't exist in Photoshop?

Many thanks.

Illustrator is Vector-oriented, and you can work with paths more elaborately than with Photoshop. A few things I like: Art Brushes, multipe strokes that remain live and editable, Blends, and Gradient Meshes. Also, there are third-party plugins to assist in producing specialized documents, like CAD and Map Making.

The big advantage of working with vectors is they can be resized with no difference in quality. You can also easily copy and paste paths between Illy and Pshop.

Someone else will have to answer that, as I've never tried it.
