i cannot figure out why, but when i click to create merged document it previews perfectly. i unclick preview (have read it can cause issues during merge) and merge the document. Instead of it merging like the preview i literally get 31 pages of the same thing as opposed to 31 pages of my catalog.
****it uses row 19 of the catalog.csv source file for everything
this is what happens no matter how i do it. but preview shows the correct way. the info its showing is from row 19 of the csv. ive experienced this a few times but cannot figure out why. usually i just save close and re open and it works but that is not working anymore in any of the files that im working on.
Did you run without clicking preview (and you need to close and reopen the template first)? Once you've clicked the preview, the damage is done unless the next thing you do is Edit > Undo...
How many sets of placeholders are on the template?
i actually closed, opened and did everything fresh without clicking preview and its still did it. i actually started redoing the template using colounms, ive just arrived at the part where i need to start putting in the place holders. what i ususally do is put 1 set of place holders in the upper left (where first instance would be) and start the data merge and it automatically puts in the rest.
Just wanted to verify that you were only using one set.
What version of ID? Have you installed the latest update for it?
I would use the None master page, too, until after the merge. Doesn't look like that's part of the problem, but you never know.
cs6 and yes its up to date. i have a feeling im doing something wrong in my procedure because now ive remade the entire document and i cannot do a multi record megre. i used header and footer images that span 2 pages, should i cut them in half? like i did in the first one, is that whats stopping me? i have facing pages off and everything. ive been following the instantindesign video tutorial.
Multiple record merges can have only a single-page template, and unless you put the placeholders on the master page there should be nothing else at all on the page. ID will try to duplicate your headers and footers, otherwise, and they obviously cannot fit multiple times.
http://tv.adobe.com/watch/instant-indesign/automating-a-catalog-with-d ata-merge/ i followed this video except i didnt do the first and last things on the page or the section markers. i also have 4 coloums and only 3 thing image item number and product name. his a master is 2 pages so is mine. so i used 1 image to span the 2 for header and footer. should i have cut it in half?
i think i got it. dont ask what i did because i just keep doing the same thing over and over hoping it will work lmao and it worked. ive got to be doing something somehwere wront idk what but i will figure it out....i have to make like 10 more of these so if it happens again ill post up back in here lmao.
