Center-align created pattern swatch

Hi there

When creating patterns with for example very easy dimensions like the artboard 400 x 400 px etc, and everything right placed, as you can see on the print screens, after having created the pattern, it never aligns center-aligned like I would like it too. Very annoying.

who can help? Thanks!!

Left: the original positioning before creating the pattern.

Right: the result of a perfect square, center aligned to the artboard and with the swatch applied, not too pretty he?

Use Object>Transform>Move and in the bottom of the dialog, deselect the Object box. This will allow you to move the pattern to whatever alignment you want.

when you first make your pattern, it can be anywhere, it does not matter

once you make a pattern and apply it to a shape, it "looks" misaligned, but...

the actual pattern origin is the document origin

A thought: If your pattern is just blue squares on a white or transparent background you only need a single blue square on a larger white/transparent square as your pattern element.

    - center your shape (filled with the pattern) to the artboard

    - hold the "Tilde Key" (~), while you click and drag the center of your pattern (not the center of the shape)

    - drop it on the center of the shape (if you have smart guides on, it will tell you when you are on the center

the shape will not move, only the pattern will move

I don't know of another key for the mac, while someone else chimes in, you can always use Object->Transform->Move and make sure to uncheck Objects, check Patterns

Try the < key (to the left of Z).

Your Mac should have a "keyboard overview" helper. It's normally located in the title bar next to the clock.
