Transparency issues when saving to pdf from ai

When saving my image from adobe illustrator to pdf areas of my image become transparent. How can i stop this from happening?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Nobody can tell without

a) seeing the artwork/ screenshots
b) knowing something about your system
c) knowing what version of AI
d) knowing your PDF settings

What you see as a white background is just the artboard in AI. If you want a colored background you will have to make a rectangle with the appropriate fill color and send it to the back of the lowest layer.

Thanks for the reply.

I have CS4 on a Mac OS X version 10.5.8.
I'm trying to save the image from ai to a pdf (Acrobat 6 PDF 1.5) to print.
The iamge is below, you can see the females hair is transparent.
Any advice on how to stop this?
