I don't see the fluid grid sign in me lay out pannel

Mar 1, 2013 8:49 PM

I'm studding the fluid grid design in dreamweaver cs 6. I can't get the fluid grid sign to come up in the layout pannel. Is it because I'm still using vista as my operating system? If not can someone tell me how to get the fluid grid to show in my layout box. I created page in fluid grid. Don't see the fluid grid div box to draw in the layout pannel. Thanks

    Vista wouldn't cause this problem.

Are you on Creative Cloud or Perpetual License?

Go to Help, About Dreamweaver.  Which Version and Build #  do you have?

The Insert > Layout panel options were tweaked in the recent Dreamweaver 12.2 Cloud update.

See if this blog and video help

    http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2013/02/updated-fluid-grids-in-drea mweaver.html

These UI tweaks seem to be causing lots of confusion with users on different CS6 Cloud and perpetual versions trying to following the Help docs and the various online tutorials.

    Yes I'm on Creative Cloud.

Do you see 'Header', 'Aside', 'Article', 'Section' and similar HTML5 semantic tags in the 'Insert' box? It came out with 12.2 Creative Cloud update.

Those have replaced a regular 'Fluid Grid DIV' in the Insert panel. These tags are already, by default, a Fluid DIV tag - as defined by your doctype - HTML5 when you create a new FG Layout.

DW smartly recognizes when a Fluid page is open and Converts Layout category to Fluid layout category. When any element is inserted from Layout category on to a fluid page it will be inserted with required CSS to make it fluid, Unless user advices otherwise.

Steps to Insert a fluid element:

    1. 1. Select Insert > Layout.
    2. 2. Select the element that you want to insert.
    3. 3. In the dialog that appears, select a class, or enter a value for the ID. The Class menu displays classes from the CSS file that you specified when creating the page. The selected element is inserted on the layout.

    4) To insert a normal/non fluid element uncheck 'Insert as fluid element' check box in previous dialog.

You don't INSERT a Fluid Grid layout. You START with a Fluid Grid page. That would be done with FILE | New > Fluid Grid Layout. Inserting a Fluid Grid div is found under INSERT | Layout Objects > Fluid Grid Layout Div Tag.

Murray the recent cc update doesn't have that option any longer. It's more semantic and it automatically picks up a 'fluid' element unless explicitly specified.

Thanks, Sudarshan! So there is no Layout Objects > Fluid Grid Layout Div Tag option? Or is it the FILE | New part?

    You're welcome Murray!

The fluid grid layout div option. Most options within 'layout' under insert have been changed. Here's an official blog post and a video: http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2013/02/updated-fluid-grids-in-drea mweaver.html

    in 12.2:

    File new part is same.

But Layout category has been updated. New HTML 5 semantic tag support has been provided.

To add to that -> Layout Objects > Fluid Grid Layout Div Tag is gone.

Now DW smartly recognizes when a Fluid page is open and Converts Layout category to Fluid layout category. Which basically means that all the elements in this category can be assed as a fluid element.

Hence when any element is inserted from Layout category on to a fluid page it will be inserted with required CSS to make it fluid, Unless user advices otherwise (yo insert it without CSS).

CC DW CS6 latest update on win7

I have a problem with Fluid Grid Layouts:

When I start a new fluid grid layout page there is a container div inserted by default which has resize handles. But when I insert a div inside that container I do not see any resize handles on the new div and there is no way that I can visually manipulate it. This effectively means that I cannot create a layout

Anyone know why this is happening and what I can do about it?

    Thanks, David

Are you in Design View or Live View?

In Design View, go to View > Visual Aids > enable Fluid Grid Layout Guides.
