Paint bucket tool causes freezing

Hi, I am using Flash CS6 and this is a new problem that I am just encountering.  Now whenever I use the paintbucket tool, it freezes (the rainbow wheel is constantly on)  This lasts for minutes and I usually have to 'force quit' the program and sometimes it just crashes by itself.  Is there a way to fix this issue or even be able to know what's making this happen so I can avoid it in the future? 

I don't even have any other programs actively open except Flash itself.  I hope someone can help me with this.
