Watermark Brush - How to get it on your photo?

I setup a watermark brush and it worked the first time but now when I go to put it on my photos I get this blue skies something on the layer and it won't let me choose a color for my watermark.  How do I get the "blue skies" thing off of my watermark layer?

    Use the ordinary brush and not the smart brush.

     

    You can keep pressing the letter B on the keyboard to tab through the brush choices.
