Outer glow effect does not work when overlaid with other object

Hello,

I used the outer glow effect on some of my objects until it suddenly stopped to work. I reset my preferences and tried other different solutions until I found out

that the outer glowing effect stops working as soon as you overlay such an object with another one. If you just partially overlap these two objects the part which

does not overlap still shows a outer glowing effect. Is that a normal behaviour? that was also the reason why the glowing effect suddenly disappeared. I added

a coloured rectangle as a background... any ideas?

Cheers

Here is a extreme example and it seems that the effect is quite heavily suppressed even though the straight line is brought to the front!! It is not behind the gray shaded rectangle

You can try stacking two outer glows using the appearance panel.

Stacking them can lead to darker-than-desired glows. I usually put a fattened gaussian-blurred glow on a secondary layer instead of using the outer glow effect.

One just needs to adjust the opacity to avoid the darkness.
