custom brushes

Can anyone help? I’m trying to make a custom signature brush in elements 11 but when I come to select “define brush” it is  always,  greyed out. Anyone any ideas what I am doing wrong

    before defining any brush, you have to open some file.

    You can create a new documnet as well, create your art for which you want to define a brush.

    Then click edit>define brush and it will give you the option to save it.

    Thanks, but I created a new document and then using the type tool I typed in my signature. I then went to the edit menu but that is when the define brush is greyed out

    Once you have the text typed, then click on the green tick and then select the entire text using the Selection tool from the tool bar.

    Once you create your signature, you must select it before you can define a brush. Do you see the marching ants?
