Why does the text in a box extend beyond the right side of the box on one machine and not another?

I am creating charts with Illustrator CS5 (15.0.2). The legends consist of text in a box and look okay on my Mac (OS X 10.7.5) but when I send them to my boss, the text exceeds the right edge of the legend box. The thumbnails in the Finder look okay. Is this a version issue? Or what? How can we fix this so we are both seeing the same thing?

Check your fonts. One of you is having font issues and stuff gets substituted.

We are using a special font from the customer and we both have new iMacs. How do I check the fonts?
