Available Ram in CS6 is inexplicably low

I've installed Photoshop CS6 on my Macbook Pro Retina i7 with 8gb of RAM. Running latest version of OSX Mountain Lion.

The system is obviously 64bit, as is the hardware. In the spashscreen of PS CS6, it says x64, so I know it's not running in 32bit.

Nonetheless, I have only got 1829Mb indicated as "available Ram". Why can't PS "see" the other 6Gigs?

When selecting the in "programs", and getting info, there is no option about 32 or 64bit to be found.

I think I'm missing something, but can anybody explain what?

Tx in advance,

Please post the Help -> System Info log.

That should tell us what is happening on your system.

Photoshop CS6 is 64 bit only on MacOS, so there is no 32 bit option.

If the memory flucutates check OS vitals and see if it does same there also.  Then run a memory test.  Probably either a failing memory bank, or a bad connection.  If you can open up computer go in and push on the memory sticks and make sure they are making good connection.  Beware of static electricity and ground your finger to metal case before touching anything.

    >> I must say that I did copy the plug-ins folder from CS5 to CS6 blindly, in order to keep the plugins.

Go delete EVERYTHING you copied to the plugins folder.  Yes EVERYTHING.

    That was a huge mistake.

The plugins folder for CS6 is only for third party plugins.

And you should never copy Adobe plugins from version to version like that.
