While trying to open Dreamweaver CS5 on a mac running OSX 10.8.2 I keep running into this error message.
"Dreamweaver is unable to locate the menus.xml file and cannot rebuild it from a backup. You may need to reinstall Dreamweaver."
I would attempt to reinstall but I'm currently overseas for 3 months and don't have my serial number or the disk with me. Does anybody know of a solution? I've tried searching the web but couldn't come up with any solutions.

Go to Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CS5/Configuration/Menus/menus.bak
You'll see a menus.xml there - it is a backup copy of the actual menus.xml file that DW uses.
Copy it from that folder, paste it 1 level above (in Menus folder).
Fire up DW. See if it works.
Under Dreamweaver CS5 Within Configuration I only have these folders (Connections / DocumentTypes / flash player / Generator / JSExtensions / KnowledgeEngines / plug-ins / SourceControl / VersionControl) but no Menus folder.
I also have Under Dreamweaver CS5 an en_US folder which also has a Configuration folder which only contains (Strings / Styles) but no Menus folder.
Not sure if this will work.
I've packaged a .zip file from the 'Menus' folder of my installation of CS5. Download it, extract it and place 'Menus' folder within Dreamweaver CS5 > Configuration folder. See if it helps.

@pantone354c, Try the menus.zip attachment from Reply #6. If no luck still, From Finder, Cmd + Shift + G, type this:
~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS5/en_US/Configuration
Check for folders here.
Hey Sudarshan, That seemed to work except now I have a new error. Go figure!
The following panel layout is missing or could not be read:
Macintosh HD:Applications:Adobe Dreamweaver CS5:Configuration:WorkspaceMac:DesignerXML
The Application will not have a correct layout. Please load one from Windows->Workspace.
I hit okay, then it crashes.
Would you mind zipping up that folder as well?
If this doesn't solve the problem I might just give it up until I get back home and can do a reinstall.
Worked again, and now I have a new error. Similar to the user in the link I posted below Dreamweaver did open and I get this message when I go to the top menu bar.
I'll try these solutions to see if I can fix it.
Seems to me like your complete installation is corrupt. Try following the last link in that thread to see if you're able to fix it. Or else, I'm afraid you have to do a re-install.
Read the instructions very carefully. This is not a pirated download site. This site offers trial downloads for 30 days of CS5 (since Adobe no longer lists those links on their portal).
Once you download, during installation, be sure to use your serial key.
Btw, do note that ALL downloads will be done from adobe.com portal, not via any 3rd party site. Hence, read the instructions on that link carefully before attempting to download any files.
