How do I reduce a photo from MB 17.5 to MB6 without reducing the quality,  I'm trying to get a 60cm x 40 cm Canvas printed.   Can anyone help please? ....

    Hello Neilblkrex,

I understand that it is difficult to determine which forum to post in since there are so many. This particular forum (sharing and storage) was created to help those transitioning from Photoshop.com to Adobe Revel

If you are using Photoshop full version, then you would go to Image > Image size.

If you are using Photoshop Elements, then you would go to Image > Resize >image size

    Thanks

    Scott

That is a large print why do you want to reduce the number of pixel you have.  If your image has a 3:2 aspect ratio needed for a 60cm by 40cm print use all the pixels you have.  Use Menu image size. In the bottom of image size dialog un-check RESAMPLE.  Then in the print middle section set the width to 60 CM Photoshop will set the height to 20 CM if your image has a 3:2 aspect ratio and set the DPI resolution to use all the pixels you have. Click OK and then print.

You're going to have to reduce the image rewsolution to about 135 ppi to meet the 6 mb file size. It's not going to look too good unless you're at least six feet away.

To reduce size of image you can change the resolution, image size, or save with compression.

The smallest size will be with a jpeg save for web.  Use "save as" and do not overwrite original.  Adjust to quality setting to get the size you want.  All methods have trade offs.

Cant get this to work,  I've un-checked Resample, put width to 60cm. and height to 40cm this pushed the MB up  to 21.9.   This is in CS5.  What am I doing wrong?

No if you un-check Resample pixel  size will not change and all you need do is set print width. When you set print width with RESAMPLE NOT CHECKED the top pixel size will be grayed out and not change. Once you set Print Width Photoshop will set Print Height and Print DPI resolution.  You change one setting and Photoshop set the other two. Its simple math  that Photoshop does for you.

Pixel Width devide by Print Width = Print DPI.

Pixel Height devide by Print DPI = Print Height
