This is ridiculous. Illustrator is going EXTREMELY EXTREMELY slow, infact, unusable when I use ANY kind of vector texture. Here is an example of a texture:
I've tried simpler ones and it don't matter.
I use an imac 3.1gh wih 16gb RAM.
This doesn't slow down my MacPro 3,1 at all. Maybe try to use the originating raster file, placed, as a "placeholder" for the vector version till you're almost done ...
Thanks, it works ok when placed but when I open it ... .gosh.
I've tried it at home too, could it be some kind of setting?
The only setting I can think of that might affect this is the scratch disks in Prefs, but with 16 gb ram, that's doubtful.
So are you "opening" the grunge raster file in AI? Have you tried placing it instead and live-tracing it?
Not a problem here either.
Of course, there are more than 247,000 paths there.
If you relaunch AI is it better?
Tried resetting preferences?
Yea opening. Placing works ok.
I've had the issue for a long time. Right now running 10.8.
I will try resseting prefs.
I deleted the pref file ie **** command option on restarting illustrator and that seemed to do it. Not sure why it was being bogged down by that... oh well.
