I have accidentally loaded some patterns more than once and so they are repeated in the list (which is more annoying than anything at this point).
I have checked the manual and it just says to go to any Pattern pop-up menu and to then select the pattern and hold the Alt key and click (pointer turns into scissors) and the pattern will be deleted.
Well, this just hasn't worked for me.
I don't want to delete the patterns by going to program program files > adobe > presets ... or what have ya b/c I do want one copy.
Is there a way to clear them all from the list and then I can reload/import the patterns again?
I have tried to get rid of the duplicates in the list by using the Preset Manager, the Import/Export panel and by (of course) the (above) Alt + Click on the pattern name to no avail.
All in all I would just like to keep my patterns organized so as the collection grows I'll be able to manage them better and find 'em more quickly.
Thank you in advance for your time Hope you're having a great day/night
i've done exactly that but it didn't work. the scissors icon didn't appear when i hit the alt key. guess something must be wrong with ps again. time to call adobe, again.
thank you or your help. i'll come back & let you know what finally works out for me.
i have read about the preset manager.
Then try opening the Preset Manager use the pull-down menu select Patterns. Look at the patterns that are loaded find and highlight the dupe(s) and use the delete button to delete the loaded dupe. If you save a set of patterns with a dupe in the set. You will need to replace the loaded patterns with that set delete the dupe and re-save the set.
thank you for your response.
i have tried the preset manager and the picker menu. on the latter patterns aren't listed. ??
i can only seem to delete patterns in the preset manager but that isn't removing the duplicates from the list.
also, when the pattern list is showing and the rename and delete options are available it too only deletes from the preview box but the pattern remains available in the list.
well, just wanted to get back. i'll keep working at it.
I have accidentally loaded some patterns more than once and so they are repeated in the list
Do you mean the list of Pattern Set names in the menu that's accessed from the little button at top-right of a Pattern picker panel?
the pattern list that is available like when you have a layer and you open the layer styles and choose pattern overlay and then you click the arrow by the gear icon for a list
the list that is available when you go to the preset manager and choose pattern and then you click the arrow by the gear icon etc. this is the list with the duplicates.
let me make sure i understand the term Pattern Picker Panel ... this is the panel that's accessed via the ways listed above??
i just tried to delete the patterns entirely by moving the pattern files to a new folder just to hold them and then restarting photoshop but this didn't work. the patterns were still available.
ps. the patterns are not listed when i go to the space that is furthest to the left on the options bar ~ where one can choose tool presets. when i open the drop down menu patterns are not listed.
OK, you and I are on the same page. Others are telling you how to delete Pattern swatches instead of remove Pattern menu items.
The duplicate items in the menus will be the names of duplicate .pat files stored in one of the multiple Patterns folders in which Photoshop looks for these files in order to populate the menus. You will need to remove the superfluous .pat files then relaunch Photoshop to be rid of the duplicate menu items.
The paths of these Patterns folders depend on the version of Photoshop. If you don't know how to locate them then post your Ps version and OS.
thank you so much for sticking with me.
so, i went to my OS (which is Windows 7 64 bit) then to > Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop Cs6 > Presets > Patterns (or whichever preset you need to edit)
(i also have Program Files (x86) which has a different list of patterns and some of the same patterns as Program Files but then Program Files has some patterns that Program Files (x86) doesn't have).
i went ahead and deleted a pattern from one of these and then i shut down Ps then opened Ps again. sure enough the pattern was gone from the list and one copy remained !!
but then i went to do the same to an other pattern, and now (i'm sorry) i don't recall if it was the one w/the (x86) or the other, but this time it was not removed.
Update: i believe the reason the second attempt to delete the preset failed because i tried to remove it from (x86) but i needed to delete it from the Program Files without the (x86)
i wanted to check the pattern list by making a shape layer > double click to open the LS's and then to look at the pattern list ... but guess what? i am now getting a program error box that says "Cannot use the Rectangle Tool due to a program error" !!?? omg!
Update: was able to fix the Rectangle tool error by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + a cold start of Ps. you Must press those 3 keys Very Quickly at Same time you click your Ps icon to start Ps.
Note: if you use the above three keys plus cold start it will reset your presets to Ps's default settings. my patterns, layer styles etc. were still installed but i had to reset things like: the color of the interface, my cache level, the amount of undo's etc.
i think the initial problem came about b/c Ps was having one of its nervous breakdowns and so i called Adobe and someone there reset Ps?? i assume they reset it b/c all my presets that i installed were missing and in different locations. the guy put a en_US folder on my desktop but i have no idea what to do w/it nor do i know where the most recent one is located or if it has anything to do w/my current issues.
Update: tried to call Adobe for help but they're closed until Monday 3/11/13 so, still no idea what they did that caused my patterns and such to not be available which is why i tried to reload them myself and ended up with doubles.
So, all in all ... if you too have Double Patterns, Brushes, Layer Styles etc. in your list and you would like to get rid of them just follow the directions above.
thank you so very much to everyone that tried to help me out. i really do appreciate all of you!!
and conroy thanx again for always lending a helping hand you're awesome!!
