Rectangular Marque Tool and Layers are not working properly.

When I make a selection with the rectangular marque tool, my selection either automatically turns elliptical, or I get a message saying, "Warning, No pixels are more than 50% selected. The selection edges will not be visuble." It doesn't make sense.

 

And some times, when I paste selections of layers, they turn slightly transparent. Are these bugs? Can they be managed?

    Most likely there is a value other than 0 px entered in the feather box in the tool options bar.

    photoshop elements 11 has a slider for the feather down at the bottom in the tool options which you want set to 0 px

    click on the Tool Options if your tool options are not showing.

    Thank you, Kelly. That's exactly what the problem was. By default, the feather to the rectangular marque was set to 250 px. I thought there was only a feather for the brush and eraser tools.

     

    I wonder what's causing the layer problem though.

    What selection tool are you using when you make a selection to paste?

    I just use the regular lasso tool with opacities set to 100 to copy. To paste, I just give the key command (Ctrl + V). Keep in mind that the result of a pasted selection varies. Sometimes the pasted selections of drawings turn transparent, and sometimes they don't. When they do, I have to use the fill tool to make the selections 100% solid again. And it can also be very hard to notice unless there is an object behind the selected layer. I believe the value of what looks to be less opacities is accurate to the color level.

     

    To make the drawings, I usually just use the pencil, fill, and dodge tools. I don't believe that there is a problem with the settings.
