I'm given 'Cannot open 'test.indd". (Error code:14)

Mar 11, 2013 8:57 AM

I'm given the popup 'Cannot open 'test.indd".  The file "test.indd" is incompatible with Adobe InDesign (Error code:14).' every time I try to open a document. Any ideas?

Any document, or a particular document named test.indd? Are you using the file > open command, or double-clicking the filename?

What version of ID and OS?

Are these files converted from QuarkExpress files to InDesign files? Does this happen with new files created and saved from within InDesign?

Send me one of the files to look at. Upload to Dropbox and then post the link here or PM me.

Yes the file opened up fine at my computer as well. Try cleaning the cache for InDesign and reset the preference file. Navigate to the location Macintosh HD/Users/Username/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/Version 8.0/ and drag the en_US folder to the desktop. When relaunching InDesign hold down the Command+shift+Option keys until you get a prompt asking to clean the preference files and then click Yes to proceed.
