Each time I open a new image in ACR and then open image the editing screen reverts to QUICK mode and a smaller screen size. I then have to click to change it to EXPERT mode and then click to make it full screen. I never had this problem with PSE 10.
(I am bringing RAW images in from outside and not via Organiser.)
Is there a way to set these defaults?
Elements remember your last closing state, so if you close the editor at guided edit and then reopens it then it will opens it in the guided edit mode.
If that is not the case then you can go to the preferences (Edit>Preferences) and and then click on the option 'Reset Preferences on next launch'
Now close your photoshop elements and relaunch it. It will recreate the preferences for you.
Thank you Harshit yadav
I have tried your suggestions and no change. It does initially open in Expert mode and at Full Screen but as soon as ACR opens and starts to load the RAW image the main screen in the background changes to Quick Mode. I edit in ACR and open image and the main screen is still in Quick Mode.
I worked exactly the same way in PSE 10 and everything worked perfectly.
I tried your suggestion but still no luck.
I have reinstalled PSE11 but there is no change. It always opens in EXPERT mode as required, but as soon as ACR opens to bring in a RAW image the main screen reverts to QUICK mode again.
As mentioned, I don't use Adobe Organiser, good as it is. I right click on a RAW image and select Open in PSE11 or I bring the RAW image in from another image viewer that I have used for a long time now.
I used PSE9 and PSE10 this way for a very long time and it worked perfectly. The problem has only arisen in PSE11.
I'm running out of ideas now and am becoming convinced it's a program bug.
Just wondering if someone could try this with their version and report on how you get on.
Open Windows Explorer and right click on a RAW file. Click on 'open with' and select/choose PSE11. Does your set up have the same problem as i am having ie. always reverts to Quick Mode. Sometimes I have to carry out this operation twice for the image to appear!
Thanks in advance.
I think I might know what the problem is but have no idea how to solve it.
I believe the Preferences file is not where it should be and PSE11 can't find it each time.
Does anyone know the name of this file and where exactly PSE expects to find it?
The preferences file Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Prefs.psp should be in:
C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\11.0\Editor
You need to have Show hidden files and folders enabled in the windows 7 folder options.
That's all correct (file in correct location) but thanks for trying. Although intermittent, a number of my preferences are lost when the program is opened. In addition to the program constantly reverting to QUICK mode (which I don't use) the (oversize) tool bar at the bottom, that I've ticked to be hidden appears again on restart. It's a pain having to reset everything each time.
I'm now seriously considering going back to PSE10. I can convert my RAW files from my Sony RX100 to DGN files which I was doing prior to purchasing PSE11. PSE10 did not have any of these issues.
Very disappointed with Adobe as this is such a basic requirement and no one seems to have the answer. I can't see how I could have installed the program incorrectly.
Thanks to everyone for the help offered. I will keep following the forum in case someone comes up with the answer.
