Use the Magnetic Lasso Tool (press keyboard letter L), and select the shoe. When you have navigated around the shoe, you will see the selection outline ----"marching ants". This indicates that the selection is active.

Hello,
I have followed the instructions, However when I complete step 5 the shoe disappears
leaving only the white background.
Step 2 of the instructions is there a function to select the shoe?
Step 4 of the instructions how do you make the layer active again.
I might be missing a step not sure.
Also when selecting a new layor a dialog box appear is that normal?
Thanks
You have to have the layers palette open. If it is not open, go to Windows menu and check "Layers"
The blank layer which you will fill with white has to be below the layer with the shoe selection. If it is not, drag it down in the layers palette. Refer to my print screen delineating the layer structure.. I suspect that the white layer is at the top of your stack of layers.
Refer to the program's help file for use of the magnetic lasso tool. You can also use the selection brush tool, keyboard letter A.
To make a layer active, click on it in the layers palette.
Hope this helps.
