Text spacing larger in ie9 vs Dreamweaver and Firefox

Mar 17, 2013 5:51 AM

Hi.

Can anyone suggest why any piece of text I add to my website takes up much more vertical space in ie9 than it appears in Dreamweaver itself or Firefox?

This happens in paragraphs, headings tables, basically everything. My entire site is currently running with unnecessarily high div containers so content displays correctly in ie.

Edit: I've since found out that turning on compatibility view solves the problem - perhaps this makes it easier to diagnose?

Thanks very much.

If designed correctly, there should be no height values expressed on any divisions with text in them.  Page height is always determined by content; not explicit height values which limit how much a container can hold.

To normalize font-sizes in various browsers, use a CSS Reset method and define your sizes in pixels rather than points.
