How to Record Voice Over -

Mar 17, 2013 11:44 AM

Meter fluctuates but the audio clip does not record in the time line. Premiere 6. I have pressed "r", the record button and the space bar. At the top of my audio meters, above a label that says "Master" there is a grayed out label that says "front left" ...what does that mean? In the tutorials I have watched this box gives a choice of mics.

    Welcome to the forum.

Do you mean Premiere Pro CS 6, or the very old Premiere 6?

    Which OS?

If PrPro CS 6, have you Targeted your desired destination Audio Track?

What mic are you using, and how is it attached to your computer?

    Good luck,

    Hunt

Hi, Bill... I couldn't respond because I wasn't signed in. Apologies for the mix up.

I'm using CS 6. I do not know how to target the desired destination. How do you do that?

I'm using Plantronic mic. I could see fluctuation on the meter, so I think the input is arriving.

Bill, I have figured out the track targeting. With the track trageted I still am not recording any files.

On the label above my meter it says "front left" and it is grayed back.

Does that have anything to do with the problem. In the videos I have watached the label reads "Mic 1"?

This is how I set it up, then hit Play to record.

    Bill,

    Here is my audio mixer.

Notice that I do not have a red bar at the top of the meter. Als you have a stereo label above your meter.

Any ideas why mine is different than yours?

Has the "R" button been depressed? It looks like you have both "S" and "R" available in that screen-cap.

    Good luck,

    Hunt

    Sal,

here is what my meter looks like.

It does not have the red bar at the top of the meter nor does it have the word Stereo Mi above the word master.

    Does that make a difference/

How did you that to happen?

The master record button -- lower right, is not active.

The red bars at the top only mean that the last time that channel was played it pinged the meters

Go to Preferences/audio hardware and check you settings for input

My preferred method is to use a recording device, something like the Zoom H4N.  It's just easier, I think.

    Sal,

    Still no luck.

I hit record and then play and it does not record.

    Sal,

Here are screen grabs.  The master record button is blinking red. The Vo Jr track is selected.

The "S"button is turned off. Any other ideas and where to go from here.

When you click the arrow next to front left at the top what do you see? Is your mic plugged into front left?
