You've confused me. Where are you editing the files? And why are you not always editing in the local folder?

What happens if you click the rmote server in the Files panel as in?

In this instance, I have not defined a remote server, hence the message.

My local site folder IS my testing server folder. So when I save files in DW, they are instantly saved to my testing server.

I don't see any advantage in having a testing server folder plus a separate local site folder since they will contain exactly the same files. IMO, it's an unecessary duplication of data on my hard drive.

When I hit Ctrl+Shift+U or the PUT arrow, my local/testing server files are uploaded to my remote server.

Make sense?

Hi Ben if I switch file panel to Remote Server and mouse over the down arrow it says: Get file(s) From “Remote server(Remote Server Quality Carpets)”

If I mouse over the up arrow it says: Put file(s) To “Remote server(Remote Server Quality Carpets)”

I don’t want to risk down loading just in case it mess things up. Jeff

Yes that’s how I would like mine to work, seems the easiest way to me, does that mean I need to put my main root file in the: xampp/htdocs……. File

Yup. Local site folder = drive-letter://xampp/htdocs/yourSitename.

Hi Nancy I’ve tried to do that but I can’t get it to work, at the moment

I’ve got it in like this: D:\xampp\htdocs\quality-carpets_cs5\

But I did try it like you said : D://xampp/htdocs/ quality-carpets_cs5/ but it wouldn’t allow the forward slashes’

Hi Nancy Last night I left it after your help all was working well, I came back on to night opened the page clicked live view, and a message came up on the yellow bar saying: An unknown error occurred while discovering dynamically-related file. Retry, and on the live view page it says: Server Not Found The page http://localhosttest_consultant/index.php was not loaded because Dreamweaver could not find the server “localhost”. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and the server name is correct. Thing is it was working last night and nothing has changed, I’m connected to the internet I wouldn’t be able to send you this if I weren’t, but because this is a local host being connected isn’t relevant, I’m sorry to be keeping on at you but I really need some help thanks you Jeff

Did you launch Xampp this morning? It must be running in order for DW to find your localhost.

This might sound stupid but I am right in putting my website file inside the: htdocs file inside the: xampp file aren’t I

There's no problem with putting your local site folder inside xampp/htdocs/.

But did you start XAMPP?

To start XAMPP simply open XAMPP Control and start Apache, MySQL and ProFTPD services.

I'm at a disadvantage here because I don't use Xamp or Mac. But for Wamp, I have a desktop icon I click to start the server. Then a smaller icon appears in my task bar. I can right click that for other options.
