Is it possible to create a vector-based pattern in PS CS6?

hello --

 

i am trying to use a seamless vector pattern i created in illustrator in photoshop, however when i resize it it is rasterized. is there a way to keep it a vector and use it as a layer effect?

    No, Patterns (and thus Pattern Overlay) in Photoshop are pixel.

     

    • You could create a sufficiently large area of the pattern in Illustrator and use the paths as Vector Masks in Photoshop (which I’d assume reasonable only if the pattern had very few colors).

    • Or you could paste/place a sufficiently large area of the pattern from Illustrator as a Smart Object in Photoshop. This will not output as vector data but can be scaled in Photoshop and maintain sharp edges.
