I am trying to set up a watch folder in PSE11 over a homegroup network but each time I do it get an error " access denied" what is the correct protocal for doing this?
Watched folders are implemented by a Windows service that normally runs in the Local System account and doesn’t have access to your logon credentials, which could be needed to access the network drive.
To change the logon of the service, go to the Control Panel and open Services. Select Adobe Active File Monitor V11 and click the Properties button. On the Logon tab, change to “This account” and enter the name of your account (on the computer that runs PSE) and its password.
Alos, make sure you are using UNC syntax (\\mycomputer\photos) rather than a drive letter to specify the folders to be watched
Okay thank you for the suggestions above: As they were helpful, and similar to what I had found online earlier in the morning, but as with the information I found online there were a couple of things missing that might help anyone else looking to figure this out:
First I am working on a Windows 7 OS with a homegroup network
A hint finding the Services in the Control Panel is not as straight forward as one might like it to be: So another option is to click the windows icon on your desktop and in the search box type services.msc note as you start typing services the option to select the services shows up in the results window. This is discribed in the blog post above.
For this example I will use C1 as Computer 1 the storage/host computer and C2 as the remote laptop (where I want to set the watch folder back to C1):
After joining both C1 and C2 to my homegroup network I wanted to create a watch folder in PSE11 on C2 back to C1
Since the two computers were joined on the homegroup network using the UNC syntax was not a problem since they could see each other and I could navigate to the folder I wanted to set as my Watch Folder on C2 the syntax was defined automatically:
And the solutions as mentioned above by changing the setting in the Logon Tab under the Services. -->Adobe Active File Monitor V11, work just fine:
But what is not clear is this:
Since I am trying to create the Watch folder in C2 back to C1 and the message I get on C2 is "access is denied" then it only seemed logical to me (of course this is just me) that I needed to change the settings on C1 so that C2 could access it
But this is not the case:
the change of setting needs to be on on C2 the remote computer not the host or Storage computer C1.
Once that change is made per the instructions above everything should work out fine after you do a restart on the computer
Hope this helps anyone else who was having this problem.
