No Pro Res options available.

Mar 26, 2013 12:33 PM

I just recently installed AE on an aditional computer at work, and when it came time to export my comp I noticed that there were no format options for pro res 422, or 4444. Did I not install something correctly?

You have to have Final Cut or Motion installed to get ProRez.

    Nope.  You installed properly.

But the nice folks at Apple want you to have FCP installed as well, so the codecs aren't there on non-FCP machines.  Nice, huh?

You should be able to install this (for free!) to get ProRes:

    ProApps QuickTime Codecs v1.0.1

I don't use QTX, but I've heard a bunch of bad things about it: even FCP users blow it off for QT7.  Unless you know something I don't, I wouldn't advise QTX.

As the others say, you need to install the ProRes codecs from Apple.

I just deleted a post from this thread that linked to an advocation of software piracy. Such posts will be immediately deleted, and further posts of this sort will result in the banning of the account of the person posting them.

Hi Todd, I had no idea that link advocated software piracy.

    How can I know?

I thought it was a workaround and it had not been deleted by creative cow and had been represented as appropriate by Jim Feeley, head of the DocuLink Yahoo documentary filmmaker forum, whom I trust, and I am sure would not knowingly advocate piracy.

The death penalty seems kind of extreme for someone who does something with zero clue of its illegality.

In law, the death penalty is reserved for intentional crimes, lying in wait murders and poisoning and the like.

Unintentional conduct (negligence) is never subject to the death penalty.

I apologize for the extreme error which I committed, but I am terrified that another innocent slipup on my part by asking a question which means no harm could result in my banishment from all Adobe forums, which would kill me.

    Sincerely, Matt Dubuque
