Since the searching is a foreground activity, it impacts being able to use the application. And it is searching very often. Any suggestions on what to do to solve what it is 'searching' for?
What message do you see which tells you that search is on?
You may try turning off all background processes in Edit >> Preferences >> Media Analysis and see if that makes any difference?
Hello and thank you for your suggestion.
Media analysis not enabled.
The "searching" message appears in the lower left hand corner of the screen in field just to the right of the catalog name. By default the field shows the number of items in a selected folder. That field toggles to "searching" and then proceeds to search taking over all of the applications resources until it finishes.
Any suggestions you have would be appreciated.
Are you in Folder Location view?
Can you please switch to thumbnail view of images by selecting the same from "Display" dropdown present on the top right corner of the app and see if this makes the searching stop?
This happens sometimes but-
1. 'searching' text disappears after some time of catalog launch.
2. It has no impact on the app performance.
Answering your queries about what it is searching. It may be searching for a lot of things like searching for any missing/offline media or searching watch folders content. Are you seeing any issue apart from 'searching'. If Organizer's performance is degraded then try steps mentioned on blog: http://psekb.blogspot.in/2013/04/how-to-improve-pses-performance-pleas e.html
Please revert if it doesn't help.
I have taken a few steps:
1. in a folder named photoshop.com ( I am not sure how / why this was created, there were duplicates of many photos.) I deleted these photos and folders. This step had no impact on the "searching".
2. Following the recommendation in the blog, I optimized the catalog. So far PSE 10 does not seem to be searching.
Actually when the searching happens, it does affect performance of the app, because the app cannot do anything else while it is searching. And the searching does happen frequently.
Let's hope that the optimization step resolved the issue.
THANK YOU BOTH so much for the direction.
