Getting color dodge(etc) layers onto black background in final image

Beginner question, but I was wondering how this could be done and didn't know how to search for it. So the line in the image are a brush coloured gray, with blending mode on dodge, and that's very basic. But it requires a dark background. What if I wanted the lines on black, after applying the blending mode? Rasterrizing doesn't work the way I've tried. I suppose you could erase away most of the background layer, but is there an eays way.

Thanks guys, nothing like the adobe forum to get a quick helpful response!
