This started during March 2013 when opening RAW files or starting PSE 10.
I have no sounds enabled on my pc. Now there is a shutter sound on opening these programs.
I cannot find out how to disable or remove this. There have been no requests to install this on my pc.
I have not changed any settings.
I do not wish to have this sound and would like to know what my options are to remove/disable it and how to be in control of my pc choices again.
My theory is that this sound is coming from the ad in the welcome screen for the Fur-tography facility.
The best way to avoid the sound is to create shortcuts directly to the Organizer and the Editor.
The paths should be as follows (ignore the x86 bit if you are on a 32bit system).
Organizer : C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 10 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe
Editor : C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
Please let us know if you need further help.
Thank you Little Pale Face, interesting connection.
I use both a pc with 32 vista and a laptop with 64 windows 7 both started with this sound around the same time.
I use settings so that no sounds play. I am puzzled why this one has slipped through my system as I cannot find out how to block/disable it.
Is there a way of adding 'furtography' to a filter list till it learns to behave do you think?
I turn off all clicks on my cameras and now they're forced upon me on my computer...how mad is that!!!!
In the Organizer preferences, there are options to check for updated services and I think that Fur-Tography one came down recently. I think the sound is embedded in the ad and I don't know of anyway to turn it off. It seems to occur on PSE 9 & PSE 10 but the sound isn't there on PSE 11 (on my system).
I normally bypass the Welcome screen and use direct shortcuts as I mentioned before.
Others have reported this sound but there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off.
Ah! I have never used organizer so would not have noticed anything new here.
Wonder if there is a way to uninstall update as unless its a security issue I'm happy with continuing to just use my Edit.
I enjoy using pse so much and its such a shame that its now the only annoying program I have, due to something which has nothing to do with photography and can only be seen as an invasive rude intrusion into the way I use my computer!
Hopefully whoever/whatever has created this whether its Furtography or other, has the decency to remove it soon.
Thank you for your comments, looking forward to a solution.
Thanks, I do have shortcuts but always open with right click as this is better for my workflow.
Now I keep jumping when I think a camera has gone off somewhere when I'm in mid-process!!
I don't think I should have to alter my well used and time saving workflow to accommodate unwelcome sound effects installaed without my permission.
This is my main grief and although there are workarounds for everything else, this seems to be a very rude installation and in no way encourages me to want related software on my home pc.
Does Adobe authorize this? How does it encourage me to use the program or to bother with other Adobe products?
Don't forget that this is a user to user forum so we are just trying to help.
If you are using the right click in explorer to launch the Editor, then you are pointing at the wrong file. Change it to point to the Editor not the Welcome screen.
The other alternative is to turn your speakers off.
Ooo, now thats something I didnt know!
When I right menu click from a jpeg, I have two pse logos, one does the sound, one doesn't...so obviously something has been done on the one I use all the time (the top one) and the next one down is unaffected, so I will try to find why as they both open into the editor after the blue screen (not the welcome screen) loads.
My apologies, I haven't used forums before and am still learning so thanks for the tips.
Yes, I agree, I could turn off my speakers and alter the way I use my computer just for this silly intrusive noise but point taken.
You have given wonderful advice and I really appreciate your help, if nothing else, its been good to have the interaction and find things out this way.
The first entry that caused the sound would be the Welcome screen which you have set up to immediately pass you on to the Editor. [There is an option on the welcome screen].
Use the second entry and you should be as quiet as a mouse (without the squeak).
So the first rh menu icon is the welcome screen with the noise to open editor and the second I must have set up to go direct to editor, wonder how I did that!
Will be using second entry for peace and quiet!
Please may I just have a final "Grrrrr" about things altering my computer without my permission?
There....feel better now
A late note to say that this sound has now disappeared!
It may be unrelated but a disabling of Flash player during a crashing phase seems to have lost the sound even when Flash was re enabled.
May not be relevant but its the only thing thats stopped it...coincidence?
