CS6 Adobe Application Manager won't open - "Another installer is currently running"

I have a few of the CS6 apps installed, and recently got a notification in my toolbar that I have an update. When I clicked it to run the update, it started opening the AAM, but then I get a dialog. I also get the same dialog just trying to start AAM from the application.

"We've encountered the following issues: Another installer is currently running, which must be closed before installing this product. Please close or wait for other installers to complete."

I've double and triple-checked to see if anything is running in the Activity Monitor that it would be in conflict with, and don't see anything. I even restarted my machine and tried to run AAM before opening any other apps - with the same result.

normal boot. Quit all adobe app, clear the desktop cloud installation with Adobe Cleaner Tool, then delete the opm.db and reboot. if you have multiple user on your machine you have to delete it for all users as well.

I've moved your question to the Downloading, Installing, Setting Up forum which handles installer issues with AAM.

Ryan,

Can you please restart your omcputer and Try Running the application.

Or check in your activity monitor for the PdAPP.app process.

@Steve(MVP) - Thanks (y)

As I mentioned in the original post (I am the author) I've restarted my computer many many times, all with no success.

There is no process titled PdAPP.app in Activity Montior.

Thanks for responding.

Any other process named - "Adobe Application Manager", OR "Adobe Updater" or "Adobe Flash" .

Also if you could attach a screenshot of the Activity Monitor.

Ryan,

Launch the Activity monitor and on the top right corner of the activity monitor select ALL PROCESSES from the download link and kindly check if we see any of the mentioned processes.

if not , please create a new admin account on your system and then try again launching AAM or updating the same as well .

Hello rmiller77,

You can also try installing it in the safe Mode.

To start up system into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), do this:

  1. Be sure your Mac is shut down.
  2. Press the power button.
  3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
  4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

Thanks

Hi - I was able to update in Safe Mode - what a relief!

However, now I've come upon the exact same problem again with Creative Cloud. I was able to update to Creative Cloud (very nice, enjoying the new CC software) and Creative Cloud now indicates it has an update to the Creative Cloud software itself, and when I click to update, it gives me the same error.

cc-update-error.png

Cancelling just goes through the steps to quit/crash Creative Cloud. When I restart it, I get the same message.

I've tried restarting the computer into normal mode, restarting into Safe Mode, checked Activity Monitor to see if there are any Adobe installers running. Nothing works.

Delete this file and reboot : User/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/opm.db

Should do the trick.

Unfortunately didn't do the trick. In normal boot or safe boot.

Any other suggestions? 😕

Hmm. Unfortuantely, I'm pretty gun-shy about going the Cleaner Tool route. Not feeling very confident that I'll be able to get the apps installed again.

Are you suggesting to remove the Creative Cloud application only with Cleaner Tool? Or all CC/CS apps?

No just the CC app file. The tool only remove the installation file. This is the only solution. This is just what I'have done and It worked for me. Good luck.

Every time an update becomes available I have to repeat this process. Which really sucks. Would still love a real solution to this problem.

For what it's worth, here's the exact steps I take (on a Mac):

  • Normal boot
  • Quit all Adobe apps
  • Clear the Adobe Create Cloud Deskto with Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html)
  • Delete /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/opm.db
  • Reboot
  • Reinstall Creative Cloud (login to CC, download)

thinking about buying adobe photoshop after taking class...now I see the problems that occur on each update, maybe not going to go that route...I have already run into not being able to get creative cloud installed....maybe not worth the effort....

Pay for the subscription but get the required application/updates from Pirate Bay. I had nothing but constant issues with that stupid app and it would either hang at 2% (I left it like that for 3 months running 24/7 once). or it says Another installation is currently running. tried the usual stuff such as deleting/reinstalling, deleting opm.db and using the cleaner tool but nothing worked. A quick visit to Pirate Bay solved all the problems. I still pay for the subscription since I use the software!
