With Photoshop 6, and Photoshop Elements I can not get a starting point when using alt click with clone stamp. Can it be caused by other Adobe applications? It seems like the alt key is not working correctly. Using windows XP.
Did you try both Alt keys?
What happens when you press the Alt key and left click on your image?
Do you get a message saying the area to clone has not been defined when try to use the clone stamp?
Which version of photoshop elements?
In both photoshop and photoshop elements if you press Alt+F does the File menu open?
First of all thanks so much foryour reply to my question. Upon further
checking of the alt keys, I see that neither one is working. And so the
clone stamp is not workingin Photoshop 6 or Photoshop Elements. Neither
is alt-f for files, or alt-f4 for shutdown, or entering alt-numeric keys
for all key combinations. Guess I'll need to have the keys fixed if
possible. By any chance does Photoshop allow substituting any other key
combinations for the alt-click?
It is indeed strange that both alt keys would stop working.
Have you tried minimizing any open programs and then pressing Alt+Tab to see if your able to switch between open programs?
Does your keyboard have a function key? FN
Have you installed any new programs lately as some programs may steal certain keys while they are running or even installed in some cases?
I guess if you have another keyboard you could try that as well.
I don't believe there is really a substitute key in photoshop or elements to use as the Alt key, but you might try the on screen keyboard in the all programs menu Acccessories> Accessibility
I ended up taking my laptop to a computer repair shop as I believe there
is a good chance that a virus has taken over my alt keys. It is unusual
for both alt keys to stop working at same time.So I'll know one way or
