I have Elements 11 (version 11.0), running on Mac OS 10.7.5. The QUICK and EXPERT modes work well but the GUIDED mode never stops initializing. I see that the initializing window opens when I switch to QUICK but when I switch back to GUIDED the Initializing bar is always somewhere in the middle and never moves to the end. Does any body have a solution for this? should I re-install the software? Thanks.
This is a fresh install but I did see it working at one point (soon after installation). Then I started working with the Expert mode for a few days, until I wanted to check the guided mode and that is when I noticed that the "Initializing" bar was stuck in the middle of its total length and no tools or menus related to the Guided Mode were available.
Is it the app store version? If so, uninstall and reinstall. If you use any kind of antivirus software, turn it off during the install.
If it's the regular version, go to hard drive>library>application support>adobe>Photoshop Elements>11.0>Locale>en_US (or your location) and delete mediaDatabase.db3. Then relaunch the editor, but don't do anything tilll you see the thumbnails reappear in the effects panel.
Forgot to say, it's tough to find that library in 10.7 and 10.8. You have three libraries: you username>library, system>library (NEVER touch that one), and the one at the top level of your hard drive. If you can't find that last one, let me know.
For the app store there's no solution except a reinstall. Don't even try to mess with mediaDatabase.db3 in that version--it doesn't care if you delete that file and never rebuilds it, which means that you lose all access to all the content it tracks if you delete it.
Sorry it took me so long to get back, I am traveling.
Unfortunately deleting the mediaDatabase.db3 file did not work. I tried to do it twice. the first time, when I opened the program, it took a while to load; a window was advising it was rebuilding something. when it finished I tried to go to the Guided mode but the thumbnails did not appear. I tried again to trash the same file and when I tried to open the program, it crashed. When I was able to reopen the program, I waited a couple of minutes to make sure that it was OK to choose the Guided Mode but, again, no thumbnails of the apprpriate menus for the Guided Mode.
Should I reinstall the program and if so, how do I delete absolutely all of the files related to Photoshop Elements 11 (full version).
thanks for your help.
As mentioned in my previous message, deleting the mediaDatabase.db3 file did not solve the problem. I have now completely uninstalled Photoshop Elements 11 and I have also deleted all of the folders that are on my computer that are called Photoshop (so, all of the application support/Adobe/Photoshop Elements.etc...) and I have reinstalled the software, but I have the same problem: it works in Expert and Quick modes but the Guided mode still has the same "Initializing" window with a line that stays in the middle of the total length. I would really appreciate any suggestions or support from the Adobe Photoshop Experts.
Thank you very much.
I am not that able to operate MacOS, but I found someone with ideas on solution.

Maybe Adobe can create a patch following the suggestions from the user.
