How can I make hollow letters?

Apr 19, 2013 7:18 AM

I mean the background can show through. With the Pathfinder, I suppose -but how?

Thanks in advance.

    Fernan,

    As I (mis)understand it, you may:

    1) Create the live Type;

    2) Set the Fill Color to None;

    3) In the Appearance palette/panel flyout Add New Stroke, set it to the desired Stroke weight, and if applicable to be centred/inside/whatever suits you, and if desired choose colour.

    It is still live Type so you may edit it.

    Or do you mean this?

    Picture 1.png

    Here the lettering is live type used as a clipping mask (Cmd/Ctrl+7) over a photograph.

    If you like you can give the type a stroke, but only after you have made a mask of it.

    Fernan,

    Rereading the OP I believe Steve has it.

    In that case,

    I mean the background can show through.

    means the background only shows through the letters.
