I want to migrate a bunch of documents that are based on an old template to a new template. Is there a simpler and quicker way to do it?

Than what?

Have the old document and the new template open.

File > Import > Formats

Thanks.

When I import the formats, I have both old and new styles in the document. I understand that I need to delete the old styles and manually apply the new styles. Is my understanding correct?

I find applying styles imported through File > Imports > Formats is time-consuming. I am looking for some simpler method.

What I expect is when I delete an old style, I should be able to specify an alternate new style. Is there any option available?

It sounds like you need the Paragraph Tools plugin ($10) from

http://www.siliconprairiesoftware.com/.

There is also TemplateMapper, much more expensive, but with more

capability at:

  • if you're importing new definitions for existing styles, File > Import > Formats
  • if you're importing new styles, then two one-off housekeeping steps: find/change by pasting to apply the new styles instead of the old styles, followed by deleting _all_ styles and using File > Utilities > Create and apply to retrieve only the styles currently applied

Not too time-consuming, though more so than using nifty third-party tools … corporate policies forbid such frivolities here, so I have to do everything the hard way ;-}

Hi,

You could also use Rick Quatro's FindChangeSpecial plugin:

http://www.frameexpert.com/plugins/findchangespecial/index.htm

He also has a batch version of it to change a list of formats.

Best regards

Winfried
