Stop Illustrator opening pdf's(OS X)

May 1, 2013 1:03 AM

Hi

Currently all our illustrator artwork is saved without a .ai exetention but our pdf's do, this has been fine for in the past but ive upgraded to Mac OS X 10.8 and CS6 from CS3, now both illustrator files and pdf either open in illustrator or acrobat, ive tryed doing the show info > open with > change all trick but when i do both types of files change due to illustrator files having a PDF header.

How can i get around this!

Add suffixes to files. The MacOS is evolving and each new release can become more dependent upon the suffix. It is a bit haphazard to remove suffixes anymore.

There are untilities such as A Better Finder Rename or Renamer for the Mac which will let you batch rename files in the Finder. Even with thousands, or hundreds of thousands of files, adding suffixes should only take a few minutes with these utilities.
