Ai CS6 causing Ai CS5 to crash (win7)

Installed CS6 and now illustrator CS5 crashes, will open but crashes (Adobe Illustrator CS5 has stopped working) after a couple of seconds, Google searched the problem and tried the MAC fix of opening CS6 first then opening CS5 with 6 still running (CS5 quits seconds later) but no joy. CS6 opens ok, but can't use 5 at all??  Google search before installation said it was possible to run both side-by-side (??) so didn't bother with an uninstall first. Any help please.

Moving this discussion to the Illustrator forum.

Dogspods do you receive any specific error messages when trying to open Illustrator CS5?

In general (at least on the Mac) the procedure to run multiple versions is to open the older version first. It may be the opposite with Windows though.

In any event, CS5 should open if CS6 is not running. Does it? If not, then there are issues with that installation unrelated to trying to run both versions.

Dogspods do you see any errors in the installation log files for Illustrator CS6 or CS5?  You find details on how to locate and interpret the log files at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5 -cs5.html.

Dogspods it will depend on the exact error you are receiving.  If you have a DW063 error for example, or Exit Code 7, then reinstalling would not resolve the issue.  You can find a majority of the errors listed in Installation, launch log errors | CS5, CS5.5, CS6, CCM - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/installation-launch-log-erro rs-creative.html.  I would recommend cross-referencing with this document to see what solutions need to be implemented to resolve the errors within your install log.

Dogspods for the DR010 and DR012 errors please see Install log error, registry key failure | Creative Suite 5, CS5.5 | Windows - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/install-log-error-registry-ke y.html.

For the DF037 error it appears you are also facing file permission issues with C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\.  Please see Error "Exit 6" or "Exit 7" | Install log | Read, write, system file errors | CS5, CS5.5 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-exit-6-exit-7.html for information on how to adjust your file permissions.  I would recommend going to the C:\ProgramData\Adobe folder and then applying the permission changes to all child objects.

Yes please.  You may also want to remove the installation logs you currently have prior to installing.  This way if you receive any additional errors in the install log, such as directories which might still be giving you permissions errors, they will be easier to discover.  The installation log will also be appended if you decide to leave it in place.  In that case then you would want to start from the bottom of the log file to see the latest results.
