i can see the image in lr5 still but it says image is missing.
i cannot locate image because i deleted them in pictures folder in my mac.
step 1: look in the trash can for your photos
step 2: if step 1 doesn't work, restore photos from backups or camera cards
step 3: if step 2 doesn't work (shame on you for not having backups), download and install and run something called an "undelete utility", there are free ones available
Related point: Lightroom does not contain your images. You need to maintain your images on your hard drive. Should you have a need to manage your photos (at least the ones imported into Lightroom), it is best for beginners to manage (move, rename, delete) the photos from within Lightroom and not via your operating system.
Related point: Lightroom does not contain your images...
Good point. And being one of the authors of a preview recovery solution, I can vouch that there are *WAY* too many newbs that don't understand this.
PS - *iff* step 3 doesn't work, use preview recovery to fetch those images that you can see in Lightroom to use as your new masters - beware: they will be smaller and lower quality and not raw..., so this should be last resort.
Hint: iSearch for "Lightroom plugin to extract and recover previews".
Also: if you created smart previews, you can recover those.
PS - If you don't create smart previews, you should (only exception I can think of is if you just can't afford the space).
And I have to say even if obvious now: you should create a 2nd copy upon import, and have a sound (post-import) backup regimen too, so this doesn't happen again.
