PSE 10 running on Windows 7. Never had any trouble before. Today it won't work.
The first time, launching the program (I have it default to the Organizer view) appeared to do nothing.
I started the Task Manager and saw that it wasn't in the "Applications" tab. However it was present in the "Processes" tab:
I killed both of these processes and tried it again. This time, the Organizer screen came up for a few seconds and then crashed (it didn't make it as far as displaying thumbnails). Again, both processes appeared but nothing on the "Applications" tab.
I got the same behavior after a reboot.
I did what you suggested successfully - created a new empty library, turned off all auto-analysis settings. However as soon as I switch back to my original catalog file, the program crashes. Unlike before, it crashes completely (there is no "PhotoshopElementsOrganizer" process running).
While you are in this new catalog, try catalog repair and optimize for the older catalog using File > Catalogs dialog. See if this helps avoiding the crash with the older one?
This seems to have worked. After selecting repair it said that there was something wrong with the thumbnail cache and asked me if I wanted to delete it, saying it would be rebuilt in the background. I said yes.
The app is running...it's still generating thumbnails after 10 hours so it seems to be recovering.
Should I disable auto-analyze from now on? Is the analyzer the likely source of the corrupt thumbnail cache? If not, what might have caused it?
