    copy and paste the trace output from the following to confirm mc is a child of root at the time your code executes:

    import flash.events.MouseEvent;

    stop();

    avalanche.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,avalancheUP);

    function avalancheUP(e:MouseEvent):void

    {

    trace(MovieClip(root).mc)

              MovieClip(root).mc.gotoAndStop(2);

              //stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;

    }

    does the movieclip that you want to direct to its frame 2 have class "mc_1"?

    if so, your code is ok.

    to confirm your code is working, remove the above trace and add a trace(this.name,this.currentFrame) to frame 2 of your movieclip with class mc_1 and retest.
