I'm working on a project and I need to use the free distort tool + ctrl (command for mac users) but it won't work. I found out that I need to convert it to a smart object, from another disscussion, but right clicking the name of it in the layers menu isn't working. I'm using CS6 by the way.
I never heard of a smart object for illustrator. There is a smart object for photoshop though. In that instance all you need to do is open the ai file in photoshop and it will create a smart object.
There are not "smart objects" in Illustrator.
If you are trying to free distort a rater image or text, you may find it helpful to select the object or group, then choose Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Mesh. Enter 1 row and 1 column and click OK. Then you will be able to Free Distort raster images and text.
I realize that now the discussion I was looking at was for photoshop. Forgive me still though it's not a raster image it's a compound path with fill. I did try that but it didn't work, thanks for trying though. It's still acting like a normal transform doing basic resize horizontally and vertically.
What it's doing it when I attempt to use the free transform + ctrl or any other button and it acts like it's normal. It won't change the perspective the way I want it only changes it vertically and horizontally.
Sadly none of this actually helped but I thank you guys for trying. I finally managed to figure out what I needed to do on my own. What I was doing wrong was that I was only holding down ctrl and needed to hold down shift at the same time. And I had to click and hold the anchor before I pressed ctrl+shift.
but the discussion talking about the smart object was a photoshop discussion,
Ah. In some cases, such a discussion may help clarify, wherever it comes from.
It is nice to know that you had it sorted.
