Gradients & Objects

Hi all,

I have a pile of individual objects to which I'd like to apply a single gradient.  The default effect is that the gradient gets applied to each object individually.  I'm looking for a way to apply that gradient as if the pile of objects were a single object.

Is there an easy way to do this?

Example:

    1. Select all your objects to fill
    2. Hit G to switch to the gradient tool
    3. Drag and drop from start to fiinish point of gradient

That will not actually make one gradient. It will result in one gradient per path. If you doubt this, rearrange the objects afterward.

To actually make one gradient span them:

    Select all the paths.

    Object>Compound Path>Make.

    Apply the gradient.
