Hi

I have a new computer with Windows 7  , PSE 11  and Lightroom 4. I now want to use the lightroom organiser for my photos. How do I bring them from my backup PSE 10 catalogue on an external hard drive into Lightroom, with their keywords attached

Hi Sara, do you already have photos in Lightroom? If not, there is just one major step -- upgrading your Elements catalog to a Lightroom catalog. Here is an article on this  step.

If you do already have photos in Lightroom, let me know  and I'll give you more information.

PSE must be installed on this new computer (you might then have to re-install Lightroom if you installed Lightroom first and then PSE) and then you should see the Lightroom command File->Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog.

I believe you also need a later version of Lightroom 4 (for example, version 4.4 works) to upgrade your PSE catalog if you have PSE11 installed.
